1. Personal Background: Peter Lik is from Melbourne, Australia. He now lives in Las Vegas, Nevada. He is a self taught photographer. In 2014, he sold the world’s most expensive Photograph called Phantom at 6.5 million dollars. 1n 1989, he traveled through all 50 states of the United States and photographed anything he thought was worth taking pictures of.
2. Style: Peter Lik generally takes landscape photos. Many of his shots are also wide shots. He also considers himself a “fine-art” photographer. Peter Lik’s photos take advantage of color whenever they can and the colors are mostly very vibrant. A painting that can be compared to Peter Lik’s photo named Crimson is named San Giorgio Maggiore at Dusk by Claude Monet. It is also a wide shot like many of Peter Lik’s photo and is very colorful. They both have brighter and “warmer” colors towards the center of the image/ painting while the outside is darker and has “cooler” colors. Another common theme among his photos are photos with reflections in water.
3. Philosophy: Peter Lik says his main drive to do photography is that he simply loves what he does. The major ideas behind his work is that the world is full of beauty. You can always find it if you look. With his photographs, he is trying to say that say that there is more than one perception of the world. The world can be perceived in many ways and beauty in anything can always be found if you look hard enough.
4. Influences: Peter Lik has influenced my work in a variety of ways. He has shown me that there are many ways to capture one specific thing in photography. Different lighting and angles can completely change the appearance of the image and the emotions and feelings the image can evoke. Changing the viewpoint can change the perception. Also, he has shown me how important color balance and lighting is. Having good lighting is crucial to the quality of a photo. The color balance also plays a huge role and impacts how an image is perceived.

6. Compare and Contrast: A main difference between my pictures and Peter Lik’s pictures is that his have a lot more color, vibrance, and life. The main reason for this is because my pictures had to be taken in the middle of winter while his were taken at different times. Both my pictures and his pictures however are of landscape and wildlife and are wide shots or tall shots.
My first image Sunshine is a tall shot similar to how Peter Lik’s Monarch is a tall shot. Both of our images feature water and the woods but his is able to capture a lot more color and vibrance. The height the shots were taken from the ground is similar.
My second image Blue Stream is a wide shot similar to how Peter Lik’s Fall Reflections is a wide shot. Both of our images feature a reflection in water but his is more prominent. His image is also able to capture more color and vibrance. My image is angled lower than his so only the ground and stream is visible while his image shows the sky.
My third image Bright Darkness is a wide shot similar to how Peter Lik’s Artist Point is a wide shot. Both of our images feature trees but my image has trees that have no leaves. My image also shows a lake and the sky which is not present in his image. His image is also able to capture more color and vibrance. My image overall is much grittier while his image is much more full of life.
7. Personal Artist Statement:
My three images all have specific cropping so they are more similar to Peter Lik’s. The first image far taller than it is wide. The second and third and far wider than they are tall. This is to force the viewer to glide their eyes across the image to see the whole thing and to change the perspective. Depth is also important in my images as some things are close to the spot the image was taken and other things are much farther away. The background is very important and for the most part is the main part of my images as they are landscape images. All three of my images are near or of Olson Pond. This pond is part of Olson park which is a great place and has been a big part of my childhood.
